Singer admits she wants a family, and she wants it bad

Mariah Carey and husband of one year and a half Nick Cannon are ready to start a family, and are already making plans for a baby in their life, the two admit in a recent interview with InTouch magazine. Rumors of Mariah being pregnant surface with almost clocklike regularity, but, clearly, they have always been proven wrong. This time, though, it’s the singer herself and her husband who confirm they’re thinking of starting a family in the near future.

With a blooming career that includes a newly released, much-hyped album and a movie role that is already generating Oscar talk, Mariah is also making plans for some time-out to focus on her family life. Both she and Nick are thinking of babies, they say: they’d like two, but, of course, they would also be happy with just one. Moreover, the two stars estimate they’re to become proud parents by the end of next year, now that they’ve already bought a house and have begun to make the necessary preparations.

“Definitely, we want a family.” Mariah tells InTouch. “Yes, of course. It’s at the forefront of our minds. We’re very close. But we want to enjoy our first year together. We didn’t have a stable environment. The first year we were in LA in a hotel and then we were like, ‘Let’s get a house.’” Nick adds. Currently, they live in both LA and New York, but they’re still to settle a minor difference as to where they’ll be raising the kids: the diva wants to stay in NYC, while Nick inclines towards LA.

Adoption is also on the table, in the eventuality they can’t conceive naturally, Mariah further explains in the same interview. However, the singer draws the line at the number of children she’d like to have, saying two is the maximum, so that they can both rest assured they’re giving their offspring the right kind of attention they need. With schedules as hectic as theirs, a large family is not really an option, if they want to be able to truly say they’re family people, she adds.

Another topic Mariah also opens up about to the mag is that of age and how Hollywood and showbiz in general look upon women who reach 40. “I find it offensive. It unfairly taints women in particular, and makes people look at you differently. I lived with that my whole life.” Carey explains. She also has to thank husband Nick for literally saving her life by coming into it when he did, because, “Honestly, I never thought I’d live this long. I have always been grateful for everything I had, but my personal life was a mess.” Mariah says.
