The real-life inspiration for Marge Simpson, pictured above next to her husband Homer from the time-enduring animated series “The Simpsons,” Margaret Groening, has died.

Mrs. Groening was the mother of cartoonist and TV producer Matt Groening, who brought “The Simpsons” to life and based most of his characters on members of his family.

She was 94 years old, zap2it reports.

“Born in 1919 to Matt and Ingeborg Wiggum, Margaret Groening grew up in Washington state before marrying her college boyfriend, Homer Groening, and settling in Oregon to raise a family,” the e-zine writes.

“Matt Groening famously used the names of his parents – as well as two of his sisters, Lisa and Maggie – when creating ‘The Simpsons.’ Some of the basics of the animated characters were said to derive from the real Groening family,” adds the same media outlet.

However, Marge wasn’t Mrs. Groening’s favorite character: Apu was.
