Bioparque M'Bopicuá in Uruguay is pleased to announce that, on November 10, it became home to a margay kitten.

The kitten has recently opened its eyes for the first time, but it's still pretty clueless about life and the world around it. Luckily, its mom is anything but willing to leave its side, so it need not worry about fending for itself.

Zoo Borns tells us that the kitten was born after a gestation period of about 80 days, and that it is the first of its kind to have ever been born at this wildlife park.

Keepers are yet to figure out whether it is a boy or a girl, and settle on a name for it.

The species is native to Central and South America. Although they look like your average house cat, margays are considerably bigger. They spend most of their life up in trees, and are chiefly active during nighttime.
