Coming to counter critics saying that the fashion industry is neither prepared for nor willing to accept plus-size women, fashion label Marc Jacobs is working to release a range that will cater exclusively for curvaceous ladies.

Though this isn’t official just yet, the label’s president, Robert Duffy, confirmed plans on his Twitter page, Metro informs.

An entirely new line will be released perhaps sometime next year, designed exclusively for plus-size women, Duffy said.

Since the new collection is still in the concept stages, Duffy would not say more – but he did stress that he didn’t like the term “plus-size,” choosing to use instead “curvaceous.”

“Listen, we’re in the very beginning stages of talking to a partner about plus sizes,” Duffy tweeted.

The only problem right now is to get people interested in the upcoming collection – which shouldn’t be that hard, Metro says, because few women are actually a size 0 like catwalk models.

“Want to do plus sixes [sic]. Great opportunity. Need to get the customers interested. They don’t buy our 14 and 16’s. I always get stuck with them,” Duffy wrote on Twiter.

Interest in Plus sizes? Women are dying for fashion. Need to get the message out. But when we put 14 and 16 in the stores no takers. Stopped,” he further wrote.

Although an initiative like this was long overdue, according to many fashion insiders, Duffy insists they must tread with the utmost care lest they offend the women they plan on having as customers.

Hopefully, if Marc Jacobs takes this step and comes out with a plus-size range, others will follow suit, thus bridging the gap between high fashion and the everyday woman.

When pressed for details, Duffy backed down, saying it was not a good time to offer more details on the fashion label’s plans.

“No more questions answered from direct tweets. Too upsetting for some. Let’s not talk about larger sizes any more today. Upsetting for many,” he wrote.

Still, this being such a hot topic right now (meaning, that of plus-size designs), more on it should emerge soon – so keep an eye on this space for when it does.
