A runner from Duluth, Minnesota has delivered a baby without having any idea about being pregnant. The birth took place two hours after finishing a nine-mile (14.5 km) run.

According to UPI, Trish Staine was gearing up for a half marathon when she went into labor. She sought medical assistance after experiencing pain to her back and stomach, unaware of what or who was causing it.

The pain caused “screaming, crying and yelling out,” at which point she went to the hospital.

Even more miraculously, she had the child about five minutes after a scan proved that she was pregnant. Before she could realize what hit her, the baby was born.

“In the ER, they found a fetal heartbeat. I was like, no no no. There's no way I'm pregnant. But they rushed me up to the Birthing Center, and five minutes after I got into my room, she was born,” Staine tells the Duluth News Tribune.

Her weight remained constant throughout her pregnancy. She tells reporters that she was always doubtful when she heard reports of women not knowing they are pregnant.

“I didn't gain any weight. I had my period. I had no idea,” she says.

Trish and husband John already have two children, and a girl weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces (2.9 kg) has now been added to their family. They also provide foster care to other children, and John has three boys from a previous marriage.

“She didn’t gain any weight. [...] Her face was even thinner,” John adds.

“Whose baby is that? It’s not possible,” he blurted out after seeing the child, as he had had a vasectomy.

They named the girl Mira, to remind them of the miracle of her birth. She is healthy, despite being born five weeks before term.
