Hollywood is constantly digging up classic movies for reboots or sequels and, more often than not, the results are not as brilliant as movie studios might expect and millions of fans’ hearts are broken in the process. Looking to avoid that, Mara Wilson is opting out of the planned “Mrs. Doubtfire” sequel.

The film was announced yesterday, with director Christopher Columbus already on board. Leading man Robin Williams, aka Mrs. Doubtfire, is believed to resume his part as well, while Matthew Lawrence, who played the son in the original, says he’d love to come back as well.

Mara is determined not to do that, as she writes on her Twitter. “For the record, no, I do not have anything to do with the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel, nor will I. I've been in some mediocre movies, but I've never been in a sequel. And I have no interest in being in one now,” she says.

“Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end,” Wilson adds.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” came out in 1993 and told the hilarious and very touching story of an actor who loses custody of his three kids after a very bitter divorce and is forced to move out of the family home. Because he’s dying to spend more time with the children, he disguises himself as a woman and applies for a job as a nanny at his former house.

As Mara says, the film ended where it was supposed to end, to the point where it’s difficult to imagine where writers would take Mrs. Doubtfire next.
