Republican Rep. Nate Bell of Arkansas apologizes for his timing

A post by Republican Rep. Nate Bell of Arkansas has raised hell on Twitter, as the lawmaker used the high-profile manhunt of the Boston bombing suspect to express his views on gun control.

“I wonder how many Boston liberals spent the night cowering in their homes wishing they had an AR-15 with a hi-capacity magazine?” Bell has tweeted.

Earlier today, he posted an apology for his tweet, mentioning that he should have picked better timing for it. The full apology can be read on his Facebook page.

“I would like to apologize to the people of Boston & Massachusetts for the poor timing of my tweet,” the legislator says.

As you would expect, many are more offended by the apology than they are by the original tweet. Bell practically says that he is right about all those “cowering liberals” but has poor PR skills.

Meanwhile, as I reported, 19-year-old suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is now in police custody, so Bell can put his guns away.
