AT&T has just announced that the Windows Phone Mango update is being rolled-out to handsets out there, and that users will soon be able to enjoy new features through updating to it.

The new OS upgrade was already expected to arrive on AT&T's devices today, but nothing has been officially announced on this matter until now.

All owners of an LG Quantum, HTC Surround, or Samsung Focus device will be able to taste the new Mango OS flavor, the wireless carrier notes on its support website.

Moreover, the company explains that the update can be performed via the Zune software, and warns users that they should backup all data on the smartphones, since the update will wipe them clean.

“AT&T and Microsoft have released software updates for the LG Quantum, HTC Surround, and Samsung Focus with Windows Phone 7,” the wireless carrier notes.

The company also continues by explaining that this is the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango OS flavor, and that it will bring changes that include:

- LinkedIn and Twitter integration - Contact groups - Facebook chat, check-ins, and photo tagging - New Bing search features including music and vision search - Improved web browser - Local Scout - Many more updates and improvements.

These enhancements will arrive on all Windows Phone devices that will be upgraded to Mango, and users interested in learning some more details on the matter should have a look at the release notes that Sprint published earlier for its HTC Arrive.

On its website, AT&T also explains what users will need to do to perform the software update, and the owners of LG Quantum, HTC Surround, and Samsung Focus handsets should have a look at that support web page to learn more info on the matter.

AT&T is the second wireless carrier in the United States to offer details on the new Windows Phone Mango software update. Sprint made a similar move, and T-Mobile and Verizon are expected to follow suit soon.
