Officers with the United States Customs and Border Protection say that they have detained an 18-year-old man by the name Eloy Renteria-Ortiz for trying to smuggle an impressive amount of meth across the border.

Information shared with the public says that, at the time he was caught, the man had about 4.5 pounds (2 kilograms) of methamphetamine in his possession. The meth is believed to be worth about $13,600 (€9,985).

According to the Customs and Border Protection officials who arrested this 18-year-old Mexican man, Eloy Renteria-Ortiz attempted to take the methamphetamine across the border by hiding it inside an accordion.

Thus, the meth was found tucked away inside one such musical instrument, neatly wrapped in black tape. Unfortunately for Eloy Renteria-Ortiz, neither the accordion nor the black tape helped keep the police off his tracks.

After being taken into custody, the 18-year-old man was handed over to Homeland Security Investigations, a branch of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, WTAE reports.

For the time being, it is unclear whether other individuals were also involved in this smuggling attempt, or if maybe Eloy Renteria-Ortiz was working alone. Given his age, odds are that this was not the case.

An investigation is ongoing, and officers hope that they will soon be able to provide more information concerning this incident.
