34-year-old Bruno Coutinho from Brazil is now getting loads of media attention, all “thanks” to his accidentally firing a harpoon into his own head and somehow managing to survive.

What is even more surprising is the fact that, according to the doctors who took care of removing the harpoon, Bruno Countinho did not suffer any brain damage.

By the looks of it, this Brazilian man was simply cleaning his harpoon gun when he accidentally fired it. The incident occurred this past Sunday.

As seen in the X-ray made available in the picture next to this article, the harpoon went precisely through his eye and lodged itself in his head, going all the way to the back of his skull.

Despite the fact that the harpoon measured about 12 inches (about 30.5 centimeters) in length, Bruno Coutinho did not even lose consciousness.

Quite the contrary: Sky News says that the 34-year-old man was perfectly capable of picking up the phone and calling for help himself.

The man was rushed to the Santa Teresa hospital, where doctors had to perform two different surgeries in order to remove the harpoon from inside his head and attempt saving his eye.

Unfortunately, Bruno Coutinho did lose sight in his left eye as a result of this accident, yet doctors say he was not in the least affected in any other way.

“The object, it seems, took a path where it didn't damage any vital structures, any vascular structures and was taken out,” Dr. Orlando Maria of the Santa Teresa hospital told members of the press.

The doctors now looking after this 34-year-old Brazilian man expect that, after spending some time in the intensive care unit, Bruno Coutinho will be allowed to go home, where he is bound to make a full recovery.

“There were people who saw it and got frightened. A thing like this you only see in a movie,” one of the man's neighbors commented on this freak accident.
