Next thing you know we'll be seeing them on tanks

We'll probably learn about some man or woman using 3D printing technology to create snow tracks for their car in the future, but for now that's not happening.

Toys are a different matter entirely, though. A man named Timothy Giles decided to make a set for one of his RC cars.

RC cars are notorious for being more or less hopeless over snow, and usually over sand and gravel as well. The snow tracks help the car overcome at least one of those environments.

Giles used Designspak Mechanical, a 3D modeling program based on Space Claim to create the virtual wheel tracks.

Then he ordered his UP! Mini 3D printer to produce the physical objects one component at a time. He had to modify the printer to support ABS plastic, adding a print bed heater and a switch to change the default temperature.

You should not have this issue though, since most 3D printers in the world support ABS plastic by default (Giles chose Octave 1.75mm red and black filament).

The final product both looks cool and performs as intended. The RC Twin Hammer is just as easy to drive as before the stock tires were changed.

You can head over to Thingiverse to download the design files and set about making your own versions of the RC snow tracks.
