14 DAY TRIAL // Mama June and Sugar Bear, aka one of the most relatable and funny couples in reality television (at least according to fans of TLC’s hit series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo), are taking some time off to “figure out some things.” The split might not be definitive yet, but all signs point that it will be just that very soon.
Mama June and Sugar Bear, real names June Shannon and Mike Thompson, made their long-term relationship half-official in a wedding / commitment ceremony that aired on the show in 2013, so fans had every right to assume that they were determined to stick together for the long run.
Apparently, that wasn’t the case.
Sugar Bear went prowling on dating sites, got busted like a rookie
Even though he and Mama June had started a family together and it was their main source of revenue, Sugar Bear wanted something different from life, but he didn’t bother to inform his other half about it: he went prowling on dating sites, looking for a “serious relationship.”
Reports say he created a singles profile on several such websites, but they don’t mention a word about his intentions when he would finally find the woman to go out with him. In other words, he was probably looking for a clandestine affair, not to break up with Mama June.
Things didn’t go as planned, and he got caught. Word online has it that Mama June kicked him out of the house the moment she found out that he was “cheating” on her – even though technically he wasn’t. Yet.
Mama June is moving up and she’s definitely not looking back
While Sugar Bear’s whereabouts remain unknown as of the time of writing, Mama June is not wasting any time in moving on from the relationship – and moving up in the world. TMZ reports that she’s been house hunting and that the real estate she’s looked at so far is way above the family’s current residence.
“Most of the Honey Boo Boo crew – June, Alana, Pumpkin and Uncle Poodle – checked out 4 houses in Hampton, GA... about an hour away from where they live now,” the celebrity publication says.
All 4 houses are “definitely a step (or three)” above the one they’re living in right now, the report goes on to say, adding that Mama June must be paying for it from her reality TV savings, in which case Sugar Bear would be left stranded. Those would be the same savings Mama June was saying she’d made for the children, to provide for their future.
But is the split even real?
All signs indicate that the answer to that is in the positive, but there are serious rumblings online claiming the contrary: ripping off a page from other reality TV couples’ how-to-get-rich-quick manual, the two are believed to have “staged” the breakup and preceding “scandal” in an effort to boost ratings for the series.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was always a solid performer for TLC, but you know how these things go: even a good thing can become uninteresting after a while. So, to get the old viewers back and new ones interested in the series, these two came up with this idea of the breakup. If true, this would mean that the entire drama surrounding it would be featured on the new season.
For the time being, we have only their word on this. “Sugar Bear and I have decided to take some time apart to figure out some things in our relationship. We are taking things day by day but regardless of what happens the girls will always be our #1 priority. We want to thank ya'll for your support,” they say of the split in a joint statement.
