Internet users are advised to avoid opening files attached to suspicious-looking emails that purport to come from Delta Air Lines.

According to Hoax Slayer, emails entitled “Your Electronic Ticket” have been found to carry a piece of malware that’s capable of stealing sensitive information from the infected devices.

The emails read something like this:

“Thank you for choosing Delta.

We encourage you to review this information before your trip. If you need to contact Delta or check on your flight information, go to [link]

Your eTicket is attached to your e-mail receipt as a PDF document.

Baggage and check-in requirements vary by airport and airline, so please check with the operating carrier on your ticket.

Please review Delta's check-in Requirements and baggage guidelines for details.

You must be checked in and at the gate at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time for travel inside the United States.

You must be checked in and at the gate at least 45 minutes before your scheduled departure time for international travel.”

To make everything more legitimate-looking, the fake notifications also contain flight information.

Delta is aware of such scams. The company has issued an advisory to warn customers.

“These messages may claim that you have purchased a Delta ticket, a credit card has been charged, order has been completed, an invoice/receipt is attached to an email or website may offer free flights for following or liking an account,” Delta warns.

“Be assured that Delta did not send these messages, and our customers’ credit cards have not been charged by Delta as a result of the emails. These messages did not originate from Delta, nor do we believe that any personal information that you provided us was used.”

Delta is not the only airline company whose name is leveraged by cybercriminals. Earlier this week, Dynamoo’s Blog has identified malware-spreading emails that purport to come from British Airways.
