Have an old laptop lying around somewhere? It’s time you take the old timer out of the closet and put it to some real use for a change.

Snapguide user Vaibhav has come up with a neat DIY project to help you breathe life into your old companion, turning it into a slide-out PC for your TV.

The idea is that you will be loading up XBMC (media center application which can organize your movies, TV shows and other media into a remote control-friendly library) on the laptop to create a cool media center for yourself.

You’ll also be needing a sliding channel, a spike buster, a wireless keyboard, a display cord and a tool set. Before starting the operation, users should make sure there’s plenty of space behind the TV, to place the laptop, but that shouldn't be a problem with the most recent mounted TVs.

Note that you’ll have to be detaching the screen off your laptop and that’s not really an easy endeavor. On top of that, some laptop models have their adapter located on the monitor’s part, so you’ll have to reattach that, too. However, a USB Wi-Fi adapter might spare you the effort.
