Topping the top shelf

Few people go for the best when it comes to buying a cable. Why? I really don't know! I just look at me now and ask myself why don't I go for the best cables?... and the only answer which comes in my mind is because I got used to mid-shelf ones: they're not expensive at all and so, I can afford some lack of attention when playing or just working around the place I play in.

You know, one stack's foot placed by mistake on a cable may ruin it and usually we won't go soldering and making all sorts of welding on site... and probably not back at home either! Now, when a $10 cable breaks down and becomes unusable we either cut the good parts (if any left) or hook up a jack connector and turn it into a patch-cable.

Now, working with a top-notch piece of gear involves more care in what handling is about, let alone the better sound. I don't know what make will my next set of cables be but I am really keen on trying the best of the best in what guitar cables may be concerned.

Lava Cable is one brand well worth thinking about considering the fact that names like Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Josh Smith (Taylor Hicks), Angus Clark (progressive-symphonic rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and many others are sworn on using Lava's cables because of their characteristics.

These days, Lava Cable issued a new model, a way retro one: the 25 foot-long Retro-Coil is (as its name says it already) a coiled guitar/bass cable inside which the specially annealed low strand count copper conductor wires make about all the difference as far as sound is concerned.

And if you think that such a cable with improper connectors would be a pity (and it would, really), rest assured: high-end G&H Ultra-Clear connector jacks are tipping its ends. You can opt in for silent plug to straight or right angle, straight to straight, right angle to straight, and right angle to right angle - unique choices in the industry, at least for coiled cables.

Lava Cable use 24 top-quality wiring-types from the world's finest 14 brands and the only connectors you'll ever see on their cables are G&H and the famous Neutrik bound to the wires with lead-free, 4% silver soldering compound; as stated on the Lava Cable website, "Terminations are cleaned using Tech Spray G3, chemically sealed to prevent oxidation and improve audio quality with van den Hull's The Solution, then sealed with industrial heat shrink tubing and carefully inspected and tested using two cable testers."

The 25' Retro-Coil cable can be yours for the price of $69.95 each and Lava Cable offer lifetime warranty for their work.
