The Twitter iOS client has received a bit of a makeover in version 4.2 pushed out by its creators yesterday with the purpose of updating the interface and many of the app’s core features, such as Discover.

Twitter for iOS 4.2 features an updated design and improved relevance of Discover stories, and now activity in the Discover tab shows who your connections follow, as well as updates to their lists, and which Tweets they retweet and favorite.

The spelling suggestions and related searches for search results are also located in the Discover tab, as are recent searches when selecting search box.

There’s an autocomplete function for when you log in with your user name, and go-to-user when searching in Connect tab. New push notifications are now available for when your Tweets have been retweeted or favorited. You also get notified when you have new followers.

Finally, the update adds new language support for Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, and Polish.

Customers seeing an error message when launching the app are told to visit the following web page for instructions on how to resolve the issue: http://bit.ly/whrEiM.

“Real-time search reveals breaking news, while trending topics show what’s happening now around the world. View trends, browse your interests and see suggested users in several categories, including fashion, entertainment and travel, or search to find out what people are saying about topics you care about, such as politics or big sporting events,” says Twitter Inc. in the App Store description.

Twitter iOS is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or later. The app is universal, meaning you download once for both iPhone and iPad.
