14 DAY TRIAL // This coming April, a major protest against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline is to be held in Washington, DC. The protest is organized by the Cowboy Indian Alliance and is intended to let the people who will be most affected by Keystone XL voice their complaints about this project.
Media reports say that the Cowboy Indian Alliance behind this latest demonstration against the Keystone XL pipeline is basically a group of ranchers, farmers and tribal communities.
Although there are a lot of people in the United States who do not approve of the pipeline's construction, the members of the Cowboy Indian Alliance are likely to be the ones most determined to convince President Obama not to give the thumbs up to this project.
This is because these folks live along Keystone XL's proposed route from Alberta to Nebraska and will, therefore, be the ones whose lives will first and foremost be turned topsy-turvy, should the pipeline be built and become operational.
Information shared with the public says that the upcoming anti-Keystone XL is part and parcel of the group's Reject and Protect campaign and is scheduled to begin on April 22. On this day, ranchers, farmers and tribal communities are set to ride into Washington DC.
For several days in a row, these people will hold a series of anti-Keystone XL events, and, on April 27, they are expected to march to the White House together with thousands of other folks who are also concerned about the risks associated with building the proposed pipeline.
“On April 22nd, our alliance of pipeline fighters – ranchers, farmers, tribal communities, and their friends – called the Cowboy Indian Alliance will ride into Washington DC for the next, and perhaps final, chapter in the fight against Keystone XL,” the group writes on the official website for its Reject and Protect campaign.
“On April 27th, we invite our friends and allies against the pipeline to join us as we conclude our camp and march once more to the White House for our final, unmistakable message to President Obama,” the Cowboy Indian Alliance goes on to detail.
The group and its supporters are hopeful that this major protest in Washington, DC will twist President Barack Obama's arm into rejecting the Keystone XL project by reminding about how this project and exploiting tar sands threaten natural ecosystems and even public health.
“With his decision closer than ever, President Obama must know what is truly at stake, and see once more the power of the alliances that have turned Keystone XL into a turning point for our movements, and for our future,” the Cowboy Indian Alliance says.
