Everybody wants to have a blog that works smoothly and without problems. For that you will have to do some cleaning in your Wordpress blog. The most important job is to make sure that you have the latest version of Wordpress, because with every version Wordpress adds lots of features and patches security holes. In Dashboard from Administration Panel, you will see latest information about Wordpress, latest beta versions and advices from Wordpress Community.

Using different spam filters and spam plugins for comments will increase your database dimensions because spam is stored in database. This happens in case you marked incorrectly a comment as spam and you can recover it. Some plugins will delete the spam comments after a period of time, but to be sure, you can do it manually from PHPMyAdmin running this sql query: DELETE FROM `wp_comments` WHERE `comment_approved` = 'spam'.

Make sure that you will always have a backup of your database. Always backup your site and database when you want to make an upgrade for a new version of Wordpress. An useful plugin for this is WordPress Database Backup. This plugin benefits from the WordPress cron system and it can setup your backups to occur at almost any imaginable frequency.

Another thing that you must do regularly is to check the availability of your links. When you link between posts in your post articles, you might misspell a permalink address or put in the wrong post-ID, resulting in a page not found on your site. For that, check your internal links and the links from external sources to be connected and to see if the external pages still exists.

After you changed something to your blog, make sure it complies with the norms or standards. Validation is very important because it will ensure that your blog is interpreted correctly by different browsers, operating systems and search engines.
