It seems that, while AMD is delaying the launch of its high-end HD 6000 cards, NVIDIA is moving faster with its 500 series, even intending to launch the GeForce GTX 560 during the first quarter of 2011.

NVIDIA only recently launched the GeForce GTX 580 video card, which became the strongest single-GPU card on the market.

Now that the HD 500 series has been kicked off, it is, of course, just a matter of time until other members get introduced.

However, until recently, NVIDIA's plans in this regard were mere subject of speculation, as there was no real information on them.

Now, Digitimes reports that the Santa Clara, California-based company does, indeed, plan on soon expanding the series beyond just the flagship board.

The first new card to leave NVIDIA's labs, something set to occur, as already mentioned, in the first quarter of 2011, goes by the name of GeForce GTX 560.

As consumers would suspect, it should be a replacement for the GTX 460, its expected performance advantage being estimated at 15-20 percent.

Needles to say, having a card that is so much faster than the popular GTX 460, and hopefully at a similar price, will likely be a very welcome piece of news if the rumor turns out to be true.

The board will be followed by the GeForce GT 540 and GT 520, both of which should be out before the first half of next year has elapsed.

The same report also said that things aren't dire on AMD's side of the fence either, even though the CPU and GPU maker did recently delay the release of the Radeon HD 6990 dual-GPU Antilles card.

Basically, NVIDIA will have to work towards achieving a better performance per price ratio if it hopes to wrench leading video solutions supplier position away from its rival.
