Maingear's SHIFT 'personal supercomputer,' as it called it, was introduced earlier this month and was built as a customizable configuration with one sole purpose: to combine the top performance offered by the latest technological releases at the moment. Naturally, the system wouldn't live up to its name if it weren't able to incorporate the newly released Radeon HD 5970, currently the top-performing GPU on the market.

"The ATI Radeon HD 5970 is the world's fastest graphics card, and it's only fitting that it has a place of honor in the MAINGEAR SHIFT," Matt Skynner, vice president and general manager, graphics products, AMD, said. "MAINGEAR is bringing everyday supercomputing to the consumer with the SHIFT, and we're proud to be a part of that with the world's first and fastest DirectX® 11 capable solutions."

SHIFT does more than just support the new card, though. Both the P55 and X58-based SHIFT models can support not just one but two HD 5970 adapters, for superb graphics and the possibility for wonderful multi-display set-ups provided by the ATI Eyefinity technology.

"The Maingear SHIFT was designed specifically to harness the incredible amount of GPU power that is on the horizon," Wallace Santos, CEO and founder of Maingear, added. "The ATI Radeon HD 5970 truly ushers in a new era of everyday supercomputing for the consumer. Besides having a total of 3200 stream processors each for an incredible gaming experience, with Windows 7 and DirectCompute, these cards can be used to accelerate everything from video editing and transcoding to advanced photo manipulation."

The SHIFT is notable for its advanced cooling technology and ability to store up to 12 HDDs. It supports the Core i7 and Core i7 Extreme processors and is powered by an 80+ certified, efficient power supply.
