Maingear unveiled the SHITF in November 2009, when it described it as a Personal Supercomputer. Since then, the company has updated the configuration options with every new top-tier components that enthusiasts might want, including AMD's Radeon HD 5970 adapter (still world's fastest adapter), as well as Intel's six-core central processing unit. Of course, the trend wouldn't be complete if Maingear didn't incorporate NVIDIA's latest video cards and, sure enough, it has revealed, with great enthusiasm, that the SHIFT can now be equipped with up to three GeForce GTX 400 graphics adapters.

The PC supplier's flagship gaming PC comes in configurations that use AMD platforms, as well as the Intel P55 and Intel X58 motherboards. The NVIDIA GF100-based GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 graphics cards are currently available on either of the three. End-users, depending on their budget, may choose to acquire up to three identical such controllers and use them in three-way SLI configurations.

Furthermore, Maingear is actually proud to say that there is no need for water cooling in its system, because the SHIFT itself is optimized for maximum airflow and has a 180mm fan pushing fresh air directly to the air intake of the GPU.

"Maingear's proud to feature Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 and 480 graphics in our award-winning SHIFT," said Wallace Santos, CEO and Founder of Maingear Computers. "This type of GPU technology is what the SHIFT was designed for. With support for up to three GTX 480 without the need for expensive water-cooling, the SHIFT's heat-stack vertical design truly shines. We feel that this is the technology that gamers have been waiting for, and we're happy to deliver it in a sublime, aesthetically pleasing package."

The base SHIFT configurations have a starting price of $2,099. Consumers can see each option in detail on the official product page.
