An update that delivers improved compatibility and numerous fixes has been released for users of Main Stage 2, the tool used for live performances employed by Logic Studio. Alongside MainStage 2.1, Apple has also released a maintenance update for the Pro version of its digital audio workstation and MIDI sequencer for Mac OS X, Logic Studio.

“Love the sound you got on your recording? MainStage 2 makes it easy to bring all the same instruments and effects to the stage,” Apple says. “You can even expand your show with live loops or prerecorded backing tracks. With the Mac as the core of your live rig, setup is faster, teardown is faster, and everything in between is more reliable. You can completely customize your layout, from the number, type, size, and color of the controls to the parameters they manipulate. And you can instantly assign onscreen controls to the faders, knobs, and switches on your hardware for hands-on control,” the company reveals on its website.

Just like with Logic Pro 9.1, issues addressed in MainStage 2.1 include: support for 64-bit native mode; compatibility with 64-bit Audio Unit plug-ins; improved compatibility with MainStage 1.x documents; multiple Playback plug-ins in the same group now sync reliably; and improved recording when using the Loopback plug-in.

With Logic Pro 9.1 now requiring newer specs, MainStage 2.1 also needs Mac OS X 10.5.7 or Mac OS X 10.6.2 to run in 32-bit mode and 64-bit mode, respectively. The update is recommended for all users of MainStage 2 and is available as a free download for Logic Studio license holders.

As usual, additional information on the update is provided by Apple via the Support section of its website, where tech note ts2566 looks at all the changes delivered in MainStage 2.1, as well as those brought by the MainStage 2.0.1 update.
