Michael Bay might be the only familiar face on upcoming “Transformers” film

Michael Bay is coming back to the “Transformers” franchise and will direct another installment, scheduled for release in the summer of 2014. As Josh Duhamel puts it, Bay might be the only one returning to the series.

Since “Transformers” was too successful to end, confirmation that a fourth film would be made didn't really come as a surprise – as neither did rumors that it might actually be a reboot of some sorts, without the actors who had starred in the previous 3 films.

In fact, Shia LaBeouf, who played Sam in them, had long said that he would not do another “Transformers” film no matter the circumstances.

Duhamel, for one, probably would, but no one has asked him yet.

“I don't think anybody's doing it. I know Shia [LaBoeuf]'s not doing it. I don't think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it,” the actor tells E! Online during a recent interview.

Even so, he's not surprised that Paramount ordered another film: it's only to be expected, considering how much money the franchise made.

“Whenever these movies make that much money they're going to make as many as they can. [But] I haven't heard anything about it. They haven't called me,” Duhamel says.

Of course, there's also the possibility that only some actors will return, since it's a proven fact that Bay doesn't actually consider them vital to the story. Remember what happened to Megan Fox, who did the first two films and was replaced in the third.

Another theory is that it's too early yet to talk with the cast about reprising the roles, since a script is still a long way from being approved.

When there's no script, there's no film, which virtually means casting is impossible.

Another possibility is that Bay will make “Transformers 4” different from the other 3, bringing in new actors.

“While the term 're-imagining' was thrown around, the fourth film will be a straight up sequel to the last movie. It just won't be told through Witwicky's point of view. As to whose point of view it will be told through, that's unclear right now, but it's also unclear which - if any - human characters will be back,” this movie-oriented publication says.

In other words, Bay might be making a sequel from a different perspective, one that would involve only robots.
