The third game in the series may already be in the works

One of the most popular third-person shooters focusing on organized crime, Mafia is likely to get a third installment sooner than anyone would have expected.

I believe we can all agree that the first title in the series was much better than the second one, which is seen as a mediocre game in comparison. Let's hope the third Mafia game will bring back the excitement in the first installment, not the boredom in the second.

Bottom line, Mafia is a great franchise, which doesn't deserves to die, so no matter which of the two games you liked more, there's definitely room for a third tile.

But first things, first. It looks like OnlySP recently spotted some tweets from Rick Pasqualone, the voice of Vito Scaletta in Mafia II, in which the actor claims he might have some news regarding the franchise.

While he doesn't explicitly say anything about Mafia III, it's unlikely he would be so excited over a mobile game or a remastered edition of Mafia I & Mafia II.

However, anything is possible, so as much as we want to believe a Mafia III announcement is very close, we recommend our readers to take the report with a grain of salt until we get more info from other source.

With PAX South coming later this month, there's a high chance that Mafia III might be announced there, though this is just a speculation.

Mafia III may have been in development since last year

Rumors about 2K working on Mafia III date from January 2014 when Rod Fergusson was thought to be in charge with the project. However, since he signed a new deal with Microsoft to work on Gears of War series at Black Tusk studio, it means that 2K must have given the Mafia III project to another studio.

That studio might be Hangar 13, which was opened in December 2014 under Haden Blackman's leadership, the creative director of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and producer of Star Wars: Galaxies.

Hangar 13 even confirmed they are working on an unannounced title, as well as developing some in-housed technology that would go into their new game.

That unannounced title may very well be Mafia III, which, hopefully, will be announced sooner rather than later. What do you say?
