2K Games has announced that it is planning to put together a Collector's Edition for Mafia II, their upcoming open world gangster videogame, which will be launching for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC. The game is expected to be out on August 24 in North America and three days later in Europe and the content of the new edition is designed to persuade players to pre-order it, which saw quite a few delays last year.

The actual casing is the first thing that stands out in the Mafia II Collector's Edition. It's made from hard steel with the logo of the game punched in and the stars of the narrative, Vito and Joe, artfully depicted. Inside, players will find both physical goodies and virtual objects that can be accessed inside the game world.

The Made Man Pack is downloadable once the game is launched and allows access to two new luxury automobiles modeled after the cars that gangsters preferred and to two new “made man” suits for main character Vito.

The package also contains an art book showing, in no less than 100 pages, how the world of Mafia II was created, an original orchestral soundtrack of the game as performed by the Prague FILMHarmonic Orchestra and a high resolution map of the city of Empire Bay that displays all the hot spots gamers will need to visit when actually playing Mafia II.

Christoph Hartmann, who is the president of 2K Games, stated, “The first Mafia title was a critical success, and we are excited to deliver an epic sequel to fans of the game and of Mafia entertainment. By offering downloadable content and special editions of Mafia II, we are able to show our appreciation for those guys wise enough to reserve their copies early.”
