In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook elementary school tragedy, Madonna got a lot of flak for using gun props for a large section of her MDNA tour shows. Speaking with Good Morning America the other day, she insisted that her right to artistic expression could have no outcome on the gun control issue.

Check out her statements in the video below.

“That would be like asking people to not have guns in action movies. I mean the thing is, guns don’t kill people, people kill people. That whole first section of the show is like an action movie, and I was playing a super vixen who wanted revenge,” the singer says.

She argues that, while several movie studios opted to postpone the premiere of their violent movies after the shooting, that did little in terms of offering a solution to a much bigger problem.

“Well that’s not going to change the situation. This all comes from fear and ignorance, and people not really raising their children, or not paying attention to what’s going on,” she says.

In the same interview, Madonna talks about how her daughter Lourdes worked with her on the tour, and what it’s like to be a mother to teens.
