Last week, Madelyn Sheaffer, a 43-year-old woman from Missouri, made headlines all over the world after she went to the press to talk about how she’d been thrown out of a water park on the grounds that her swimsuit was too “skimpy.”

At the time, she said that she had been discriminated against because she was past a certain age. Clearly, she said, girls much younger than herself were dressed in similar bathing suits and no one objected to that.

Sheaffer spoke to various media outlets on the issue (including with GMA, as the video below will confirm), showing the “offensive” bathing suit that got her kicked out, to prove that it wasn’t really that revealing.

She maintained that she’d been wronged, as we also reported at the time.

Today, she’s choosing to put all the drama to good use: she’s using her Facebook to preach body acceptance and spread a message of love which, in turn, is a response to all the support she’s been getting.

“In addition to other countries already mentioned, I have now heard from Greece, China, Hong Kong... and received over 500 beautiful letters from Brazil. I have been wanting to see the world, and now the world is coming to me, and sending much Love,” Madelyn writes.

“One thing I have learned so far, is that there is a much greater viewpoint and perspective of the human body than what is to be found in Independence, Missouri worldwide,.... and I thank and appreciate you for that!” she says.

“Much Love to those who express pride over shame for all shapes, sizes, in addition to various ages and stages, of this beautiful human body we inhabit our time on earth,” Madelyn further says.

As it turns out, there’s a silver lining to every cloud.

Sheaffer has also filed a formal complaint with the city against the Adventure Oasis park.
