The Greater Manchester Police in the UK have made an arrest in the disappearance case of Madeleine McCann.

McCann went missing in Portugal six years ago, when she was just three years old. Police have examined thousands of leads in the years since then, but they have all come up empty.

The arrest comes after a British lawyer has explained that he has discussed the girl turning up on a Mediterranean island. He was told about her being alive by the suspect the police have booked.

“The arrest only happened as a result of a claim that Madeleine may still be alive,” a source close to McCann's family tells the Mirror.

The same publication posted the story about her being seen alive, prompting a police investigation.

Kate and Gerry McCann are set to appear on Crimewatch today to give more information about Madeleine's disappearance.
