While other networks are launching spinoffs to keep their most popular characters – or at least some of them – onscreen longer, AMC is using another approach with its “Mad Men.”

The network has just announced that the seventh and final season of the hit series will be split in two parts that will air as if they were separate seasons, Variety confirms.

The network used the same approach with another hit series, “Breaking Bad,” and we can assume it paid off if they’re doing it again.

The first part of season 7 of “Mad Men” will be called “The Beginning” and will air in the spring of 2014, while the second and final part, appropriately called “The End of an Era,” will premiere in spring 2015.

The upside to this is that, instead of 13 episodes, fans will get 14, because each half of the season will have 7 of them.

The downside is obvious: having to wait for several months to find out how the story ends.
