A few more details about the gameplay of the upcoming Mad Max title from Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros. have appeared online, this time shedding light on special mechanics like the vantage points that are tied to hot air balloons, not to mention the forgiving checkpoint system.

Mad Max has been a long time coming, with Avalanche Studios working on the game base on the famous movies for quite some time now. After a period of radio silence, the studio broke cover last week, confirming that the game is set to appear on September 1 and that it will deliver a vastly improved experience over what was shown a few years ago.

Mad Max has some interesting mechanics

A few fresh details have just appeared on NeoGAF concerning its actual gameplay, detailing how Max will be able to roam around the wasteland and how he can spot resources and settlements.

Apparently, there are different vantage points scattered across the environment consisting of tethered hot air balloons. Max can go up in them and then use the binoculars to scout the neighboring area. Points of interest are then added to the mini-map in the form of resources, landmarks, strongholds, or enemy convoys.

The checkpoint system is quite forgiving, as upon death you respawn at the nearest friendly vantage point or stronghold, but you do keep the pieces of scrap or the collectibles you found after passing through such a location.

Similar to the recent Far Cry games, Max can liberate strongholds inhabited by the gang of the main villain, Scrotus, in order to reduce his influence on the world and ensure that the remaining survivors won't be terrorized by his raids.

The actual world is filled with different environments, from ramps and cliffs, to dry lake beds or even sulfuric volcanoes. Remnants of the old world, like subway tunnels, bridges or highways, are also scattered across the wasteland.

You can expect to learn much more of the new Mad Max title in the near future, as we get closer to its debut on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 1.
