14 DAY TRIAL // Mad Max, the upcoming video game from Avalanche Studios based on the movie series, has just received a fresh gameplay video, not to mention a few interesting details about its car combat mechanics.
The Mad Max franchise has made an epic comeback with the "Mad Max: Fury Road" movie that just launched earlier this month, and on September 1, Avalanche Studios is finally set to debut its video game based on the long-running series, titled simply Mad Max.
The Mad Max game gets some fresh details
Already quite a few different videos and details have appeared about the title, and now the Swedish studio has just rolled out a fresh gameplay trailer, called Savage Road, as well as some fresh information, this time focusing on the car combat mechanics.
First up, the actual gameplay will be split in an approximate 60/40 ratio, favoring car combat over regular combat between Max and his enemies.
According to Avalanche, who talks with Polygon, the new title wants to live up to the name of the series, and features not just an epic adventure focusing on Max but also plenty of intense car combat throughout the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
In terms of actual mechanics, players can customize their own car with different weapons to use against other cars and foes. The systems represent an evolution of the ones already made by Avalanche for the Just Cause titles, and aim at delighting players.
"Car combat is our key feature," Design Director Magnus Nedfors says. "That's been the feature from the beginning of the design. When designing car combat you have to experiment and find the fun. We learned that physics really matters. We want that heavy feel of impact in the car when you collide with each other. We want the weapons to make the physics work together with explosions so there are a lot of different weapons systems."
