There's a lot to do in the upcoming game

The first new gameplay details about the upcoming Mad Max game from developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Warner Bros. have just appeared, shedding fresh light on the recently re-revealed game ahead of its September debut.

The Mad Max game was presented to the world a few years ago as a major open world experience that brought together vehicular combat and survival in its post-apocalyptic world. Unfortunately, since then not much else has been heard about the title, leading some to speculate on its untimely demise.

Earlier this week, however, it was confirmed that Mad Max is still coming and that it's going to debut on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 1 this year.

Now, IGN has gathered some fresh details about the title via GameInformer's cover story, confirming a few interesting gameplay mechanics.

It's important to survive and scavenge for resources

According to Avalanche, survival and scavenging for resources in Mad Max are quite important as health and food are quite scarce. However, fuel for Max' car won't be in such a short supply, as the studio still wants players to drive around the great wasteland, instead of walking.

"We want resources to be scarce, but we also want a car game, we want to drive a lot and so on. So gas can’t be super scarce, because otherwise it would be a walking game instead of a driving game," Emil Krafting says.

When hunger strikes, the studio also advises players to look for circling scavenger birds, as this means that there's a body filled with maggots, a rich source of protein.

Mad Max has no invisible walls or garages in the world

The game doesn't have invisible walls to border the playable space. Instead, venturing outside the world means encountering killer sandstorms and other dangers, but those who do so might also find rare parts of Max's car – the Magnum Opus.

The car can be customized through the garage in the game's menu. In the original draft of the game, there were garages scattered across the wasteland, but they ultimately distracted players, so the mechanic is easily available inside the menu.

Combat remains the same, apparently, as the on-foot sequences rely on a Batman Arkham-like mechanic of punching, dodging, and surprising foes, while car combat relies on using your ride and your partner, Chumbucket, to eliminate foe.

You can bet that more details about Mad Max will appear in the following months.
