MachineGames, the Swedish developer behind the recent Wolfenstein: The New Order first-person shooter, already has ideas for a potential sequel and would love to continue telling stories in the universe of the series.

Wolfenstein: The New Order appeared last month and delivered an impressive first-person shooter experience with gameplay that went back to the action roots of the series but also a great story that told the horrors of the Nazi regime.

The game went on to score great reviews and, while no sales figures were given, a sequel isn't off the table.

MachineGames, the developer that made the title for publisher and franchise owner Bethesda, confirmed to GiantBomb that it would love to make a sequel, especially since it has many ideas for such a new adventure.

"We would love to do a sequel," Creative Director Jens Matthies said. "We have a very, very clear idea of what we accomplished with this game, and what we want to accomplish with a sequel."

Matthies mentioned that the studio learned a lot of small lessons throughout the development of the game, which lasted about three and a half years, and that, while the end result was quite polished in terms of content, plenty of ideas about further improvement are still on the drawing board.

"This is kind of an abstract, but because these projects are so long in terms of development-this was three-and-a-half years for this game-and given how long it takes to make a game these days, this kind of game, and whenever you design in terms of preproduction, what becomes the plan for all of those years, has to be a flawlessly polished diamond," he added.

"I think we were able to polish that diamond a lot more than we have ever been able to in the past, but we still have new ideas for how we can polish it even further."

Wolfenstein: The New Order told the story of a parallel universe in which the Nazis won World War 2 and subsequently enslaved humanity, leading to a new age of technology and cruelty against those who were deemed impure. Players controlled franchise protagonist BJ Blazkowicz, which, this time around, actually had feelings and thoughts about the whole action unfurling around him.

The game appeared on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, and you can bet that a potential sequel might appear only on the new consoles and on PC.

As of yet, however, publisher Bethesda hasn't mentioned anything about a sequel.
