While the forces on the HDD market are rallying, the SSD industry is going forward at its own pace, as proven most recently by Mach Xtreme, whose lineup has grown to include a new set of SATA 6.0 Gbps models.

SATA III (6.0 Gbps) is, like the 5 Gbps SuperSpeed USB 3.0, one of the most 'recent' storage interfaces to gain traction on the computer market.

Of the storage device types running around the market, solid state drives are the ones capable of truly taking advantage of this bandwidth.

This is because the best and newest SSD controllers allow NAND Flash memory to operate fast enough to exploit the capabilities of SATA III.

Mach Xtreme is one of the companies involved in the field of SSDs, and it looks like it just completed a new series of them.

No pricing details have been provided, but the official product page does already exist, showing storage capacity options of 120 GB, 180 GB, 240 GB and even 480 GB.

All of them are built out of MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash chips and utilize SandForce SF-2000 series controller chips, thus exceeding 500 MB/s both when reading and when writing.

For those that want exact numbers, the first three read and write at up to 555 MB/s and 510 MB/s, respectively, while the 480 GB one reads at 500 MB/s and writes at 420 MB/s.

Other specifications include a random 4K read/write performance of up to 85,000 IOPS, plus support for the TRIM command, which maintains performance over time. Finally, the MTBF is of 2 million hours.

Finally, the DuraClass (provides best-in-class endurance, performance, and low power consumption) and DuraWrite (optimizes the writing process, endurance and reliability) technologies are implemented as well.

Both mobile and desktop computers should be able to put these four Mach Xtreme MX-DS Turbo drives to good use.
