MacSword is a free piece of Mac software that enables one to read and browse many Bible translations into different languages. Just updated to version 1.4.0, the open source app now boasts over 200 modules in 50 languages, all available from the Crosswire Bible Society. Bibles, commentaries, lexicons, dictionaries and devotionals are included.

Developed specifically for Mac OS X, and localized in French, English and German, MacSword is a free & open-source application for research and study of God and His Word. From Hebrew to Albanian, it allows you to read and browse many different Bible translations into different languages, but also lets you read devotionals, commentaries, dictionaries and lexicons, whilst supporting searching and advanced features that allow Bible access from other Mac OS X applications.

MacSword uses the Sword project, serving a single purpose: "to create an ever expanding software package for research and study of God and His Word", which provides the back-end functionality to handle Bible texts, using searching features.

Besides the 200 modules in 50 languages available from the Crosswire Bible Society, with their respective Bibles, lexicons, commentaries, dictionaries and devotionals, changes for 1.4.0 also include the following, according to the developers:

- integration of automatic remote module installer (loads modules from CrossWire website and installs them)

- Finnish localization (Thanks to Tuomas)

- new Spanish localization (Thanks to David)

- update to Sword version 1.5.11

- references can now be entered with lowercase again

- bookmarks are saved separately. You can delete MacSword prefs now without deleting your bookmarks.

Also noted by the makers is the added compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) as the minimum OS version required. For more information on the software and a download link to this free research app, click HERE.
