Synium Software has released version 5.3 of MacFamilyTree, an app that offers Mac users a place to document, store, and display information about their family. The update brings WebKit-based, configurable reports, a rewritten Kinship technology to the popular Mac genealogy application and  bookmarks, among other enhancements. Also, Synium Software MobileFamilyTree now synchronizes pictures between your Mac and iPhone / iPod touch.

Users of MacFamilyTree can visualize the migration of their ancestors  over the centuries (and continents) using Google Earth to research geolocations as part of Synium's new multi-pane GUI. Earlier updates (version 5.2) added the new Virtual Tree feature, a powerful 3D view.

MacFamilyTree helps you document, store, and display information about your family, while drawing and printing family trees, lists, cards, heritage charts, descendant charts and genograms. You can also include multiple partners and people of the same relationships, and export HTML data to build a web page, although this is not the only export option available. The program's native file format is GEDCOM 5.5.

While MacFamilyTree 5.3 brings tons of new stuff, we're just going to post a few highlights. You can check out the full changelog here.

New in MacFamilyTree 5.3

· new WebKit-based Reports can be saved and are individually customizable for enhanced screen and print output · rewritten Kinship Report for reliable representation of complex relationships · improved Family Assistant: better visibility, partnerships with or without marriage, biological or adopted children, generation-dependent coloring of person icons · new Family and Person Bookmarks to keep track of current research; Bookmarks can also be used for enhanced navigation in the Virtual Tree.

Additionally, Synium Software claims to have improved integration with Apple's MobileMe web-based service, but also its own MacFamilyTree.com Internet services. New “Picture Synchronization” is now available with the company's separate product for iPhone and iPod touch on the Apple App Store, MobileFamilyTree 1.3.

MacFamilyTree requirements call for an ATI Radeon 7500, a GeForce 4 MX Graphics Card or an Intel GMA 950 (or better). The genealogy app runs on Intel or PPC-based machines under Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later. A demo version of the desktop software, as well as the iPhone / iPod touch client can be acquired using the links below.
