Seems that everybody wants a white MacBook...

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the white MacBooks recently, mainly because of the discoloration that some users have encountered. Still, despite this negative publicity, sales of the white portables have been great for Apple.

Since Thursday, estimated wait times for the machines purchased through the company's online store started to grow from 1 or 2 business days to 5 to 7 business days. Interestingly enough, these much longer waiting times are only for the white version of the MacBook, while the black version still has the same 1 to 2 business days waiting time.

While some have suggested that this is simply a case of Apple slowing down production in order to deal with the problems encountered with the white MacBook, reports that the newer models have a different plastic and that Apple is offering replacement covers to those uses who have experienced discoloration with their MacBooks suggests that Apple is already past these problems.

More likely it is simply a case of this being July, which historically is the main educational buying season for Apple, in which the company moves a large number of orders towards its educational buyers. Most likely, in an attempt to fulfill commitments, Apple has designated a large number of MacBooks to these customers, restricting the flow of products to its authorized resellers and own shops.
