All but one of the Apple Authorized Resellers tracked by AppleInsider as part of its Mac Price Guide have reported depleted stock of low-end 1.83GHz MacBook Air units, in what is reportedly a clear sign that Apple is refreshing the ultra-thin notebook. The news comes amid rumors of a 11.6-inch model being assembled and readied for launch.

Apple Authorized Resellers saying “no-stock” of the high-end 2.13GHz configuration to AppleInsider include Amazon.com, MacConnection, MacMall and J&R, the site says.

Two of them are reflecting no-stock of the high-end 2.13GHz configuration as well.

Dried up supplies of Apple's MacBook Air throughout numerous indirect sales channels has fueled rumors that “a significant makeover to the lightweight notebooks is fast approaching.”

The report notes that this is the first time the tracker has witnessed such abnormal trend in regards to the computer.

Citing people familiar with the buy side of operations for big box retailers like Best Buy and Amazon.com, the source claims that Apple has provided indications that “it will not replenish supply of the notebooks until Oct. 12 through Oct. 16 at the earliest.”

According to the same people, low volume products seeing such expansive delays are common only when Apple is gearing up to replenish the respective product line.

The ultra-thin MacBook Air has not seen a revision in well over a year. As such, the computer is overdue for an update.

Currently, the MacBook Air ships in two available configurations, one priced at $1,499 for the 1.86GHz model, and one retailing for $1,799 - the model with a 2.13GHz processor and a solid state drive (SSD).

A new MacBook Air model would coincide with Apple’s presumed plans to adopt AMD processors for some of its Macs.
