Not a huge upgrade but still noticeable...

Apple didn't just upgrade the iMac line today, the mini also received some attention. While not huge, the improvements to the mini are noticeable if only because the price has remained stationary.

Both mini models received speed improvements, and the lower model has now been outfitted with a Core Duo processor, delivering dual-core performance across the entire Mac line.

The $799 model now includes a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, and the $599 model now includes a 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, up from a 1.5 GHz Intel Core Solo processor.

These improvements are in tune with the silent upgrade that some users reported a while back, users that ordered a Core Solo Mac mini and were much surprised to receive a Core Duo one. While not as spectacular as the improvements to the iMac line, the small bumps to the minis are definitely welcome for all those who were considering them. Many had speculated that when the mini receives an upgrade, the former Core Solo model would be still available for a smaller price, most likely below the $500 barrier, but it looks like Apple intends to stay away from that and leave the lower depth of the market to its competitors.
