TransGaming is a leading developer of software portability products for the electronic entertainment industry. The company has recently announced an improved game player for GameTap, that expands the experience for broadband-enabled PC and Intel-based Mac users, according to an official report.

TransGaming says that games will be able to launch more quickly with the new faster and lighter GameTap player, being easier to search for. More than that, the new player has updated community features. Those include the Buddy Hub, which makes it easier to find, talk to and play games with friends online.

Naturally, a cleaner interface was in order, along with the updates that make your GameTap activities a lot faster and easier. An improved game search has also been implemented, while the new GameTap player doesn't require registration, sporting a GameTap.com navigation bar within the player, so users get better access to all their favorite sections of the website - that includes Read and GameTap TV as well.

"PC and Mac users alike can now enjoy an expanded GameTap experience with the launch of this new player," said Stuart Snyder, Turner's executive vice president and chief operating officer of Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. "This is yet another example of our commitment to bringing great games and compelling programming to the widest possible audience."

"The Mac is enjoying faster growth than any other computing system and the launch of the new GameTap player enriches the Mac experience even further for that large audience," said Vikas Gupta, CEO and President of TransGaming. "TransGaming and GameTap are committed to bringing the greatest games to the Mac, which has already included Myst Online: Uru Live, and we are pleased to continue this partnership that enhances the Mac gaming landscape."

But wait! We haven't yet mentioned the best feature for hardcore and old-school gamers using a Mac According to TransGaming, Mac users can now access SEGA Saturn and Dreamcast games, such as Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast) and Panzer Dragoon (SEGA Saturn). GameTap's free and Gold level membership characteristics will run on Intel-based Macs including Mac Books and Mac Minis, using TransGaming's Cider technology.

Just like with Xbox LIVE, GameTap users need to have a Gold level subscription in order to play the latest titles, but don't worry, prices for Gold level subscription plans go as low as $5.00 per month, while new subscribers can get their first month for only 99 cents.
