The second test build of OS X 10.6.1 made its way into developers’ hands this week, reportedly addressing only two documented issues. According to people familiar with the software, Apple has seeded the Server 10.6.1 test build to select developers as well.

Citing its own sources, MacRumors reports that one issue addressed in Mac OS X 10.6.1 Build 10B504 relates to the crashing of the Desktop Services in Finder. A a second fix relates to excessive "dyld shared cache" Console messages, according to the Mac-focused site. "The dyld Console entries issue was the only known issue detailed in the seed notes of the previous build, and no such known issues are documented in Build 10B504," the report adds.

AppleInsider chimes in citing people close to Apple as saying that OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server Build 10B504 arrived in tandem with the Client seed, focusing on directory services and the serial number framework. Sources reportedly told the site that, "The latest update fixes a problem with serial number registration on the server side, in addition to the [...] client-side fixes, which could have an impact on the server." There are no known issues on both the client and server sides of the software, according to the same people, while the two 10.6.1 seeds issued so far are said to have patched 13 holes on the client side alone.

Calling it "a significant step from the shipping 10A403," World of Apple revealed last week that Build 10B503 was 71.5MB in size and featured few changes. According to the seed notes accompanying the build, the 10.6.1 Update was recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard, for it included general operating-system fixes that enhanced the stability, compatibility, and security of the Mac running it. Addressed issues included compatibility with some Sierra Wireless 3G modems, an issue that might cause DVD playback to stop unexpectedly, instances where automatic account setup in Mail might not work, and more.
