Portal 2 continues to make headlines almost two weeks into its official release via Steam as the people at Valve Software have just revealed plans to roll out some new stuff to keep gamers busy through 2011.

Yes, read “downloadable content” or DLC in short, as the gamer community refers to these add-ons.

The folks at Fast Company have posted an interview with Valve's Erik Wolpaw, Jeep Barnett, and Doug Lombardi who were eager to discuss the recently released action puzzler.

Available on PCs, consoles, and Macintosh computers, Portal 2 is already amassing positive reviews. The game is selling like hot cake, and what better time to announce that the $49 game will offer more, for free, when its developers release the ‘valve.’

The interview focused on the challenges of creating Portal 2, the decisions that affected its storyline and more.

Erik Wolpaw revealed to the interviewers that, “Probably the first challenge was, ‘What is Portal 2?’”

“We actually went down this path in the very beginning where we thought that maybe Portal as a franchise is less about portals--which sounds crazy in retrospect--and more about introducing a new puzzle mechanic,” he said.

“And the common theme was Aperture Science, this kind of funhouse of science,” Wolpaw continued.

“We actually mocked up a version of Portal 2 that didn't actually have portals. But we quickly discovered through playtesting that people wanted portals in their Portal 2--and GlaDOS, and the whole vibe of the first game,” he noted.

Acknowledging that a Portal coming is now available online, the interviewers were keen to learn whether or not Valve is planning to go beyond that.

Like, for example, offer more of the Portal 2 experience, rather than artwork accompanied by more story.

Doug Lombardi took the spotlight to confirm that Portal fans will, indeed, be treated to some DLC. And they won’t be waiting long either, he said.

“We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer,” Lombardi noted.

“We'll be putting more details out about that in a week or so. We'll support that with more videos or more comics,” he confirmed.
