LG announced ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 the upcoming availability of the G2 mini and a new family of smartphones, the L Series III.

However, those who thought the South Korean company wouldn’t have anything to announce at the trade fair couldn’t be more wrong, as LG has just unveiled another mid-range smartphone – the F70.

The main selling point of the LG F70 is the fact that it offers LTE support at an affordable price. At least that’s what the handset maker claims, but additional details on F70’s exact price tag and release date are unavailable for the moment.

The good news is that LG has confirmed that the F70 will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box, which is a rare thing for a mid-range device released by the South Korean company.

LG has recently refused to commit to further Android KitKat updates for its mid-range devices and has stated that for the time being its plans are to bring only the newest high-end smartphones and tablets to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Still, we should not yet rule out the possibility of other LG smartphones to receive a highly anticipated Android 4.4 KitKat update sometime in the future, thought the chances for this to happen are slim.

Back to the F70, LG has also confirmed that the smartphone will benefit from all its innovative features and capabilities, including KnockON feature that allows users to wake up the smartphone from sleep with a double tap on the display.

The smartphone sports a 4.5-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It also packs a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, as well as a secondary VGA camera in the front.

Hardware-wise, the LG F70 is far from being impressive, but it’s quite decent nevertheless. It comes equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

Users will also be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card. LG has also stated the F70 will be powered by a high-capacity 2440 mAh battery, but no details on standby and talk time have been provided yet.

„Not only does the LG F70 offer the best of LTE technology, its hardware and UX are also best-in-class. Utilizing our expertise in the field of 4G technology, we plan to strengthen our leadership in the global market,“ said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
