In early January, during the Consumer Elextronics Show in Las Vegas, Sony Ericsson unveiled a new smartphone running under Google's Android platform, the Xperia arc. The company brought this phone to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona too, where Softpedia's editors played with it for a few minutes. Just as expected, the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is among the most appealing phones that were announced during the past few months, and feels great in the palm of the hand.

The new smartphone runs under the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and offers enhanced support for applications and various services, as well as for web browsing and social networking.

The specifications list of this device includes a 4.2 inch (854 x 480 pixels FWVGA) Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine that can provide an enhanced multimedia and viewing experience, especially since it is paired with a 1 GHz Qualcomm application processor.

The new mobile phone includes up to 512 MB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB card included in the package).

The specs list of Xperia arc would also include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, 3.5 mm audio jack, DLNA, HDMI, aGPS, as well as support for 3G networks.

Moreover, the handset packs an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper (Exmor R for mobile CMOS sensor) with auto focus, LED Flash, and HD 720p video recording capabilities.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc measures 125 x 63 x 8.7 mm (it has an arched back) and weighs in at 117 grams.

The hardware specs of this smartphone are complemented by its features, such as Web browser (WebKit), or Google Mobile Services (Gmail, YouTube, Talk, Maps, Calendar or Search).

We should also note that the new device would arrive on shelves with 3D games, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, MMS, IM, email, Sony Ericsson Timescape, access to social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter, TrackID, multimedia player, and more.
