14 DAY TRIAL // With the Mobile World Congress in full swing in Barcelona, Spain, HP did not miss the opportunity to showcase once again its latest webOS-based devices, including the HP Pre 3 smartphone, or the HP Touchpad tablet, both of which were announced officially during a special event the company held on February 9th.
Softpedia editors are present on the floor at MWC, and they had the chance to spend a few minutes at HP's boot to see the new smartphone in action.
With a highly appealing ergonomic design, the smartphone fits perfectly in user's hand, while being able to offer a great experience courtesy of its touchscreen display and of that portrait sliding QWERTY keyboard that HP packed it with.
The handset sports a 3.58-inch multitouch screen that delivers a 480 x 800-pixel resolution (WVGA), a Qualcomm MSM 8x55 (1.4 GHz) application processor, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus, LED flash, and 720p video recording capabilities.
The HP Pre 3 arrives on shelves with Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n 5GHz) and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR with A2DP connectivity, Wi-Fi router functionality, A-GPS, 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, and charger/microUSB connector with USB 2.0 Hi-Speed.
The specifications list of this device also includes accelerometer, ambient light, proximity, and compass, along with support for MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, AMR, QCELP, WAV audio file formats, or for MPEG-4, H.263, H.264 video files.
Moreover, the HP Pre 3 arrives on the market with 512MB RAM, 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, Integrated IM, SMS, and MMS, and Microsoft Exchange email with Microsoft Direct Push Technology, POP3/IMAP (Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail, etc.).
Running under the webOS 2.2 operating system, the handset includes HP Touch and Share capabilities, which enable it to wirelessly connect to other HP devices for data transmission.
At MWC, HP demoed this capabilities using a Pre 3 device and a Touchpad tablet PC, showing how one can send web links from one device to another.
