The Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) announced at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain, its new ad-supported Disney.co.uk portal for mobile phones, which brings the Disney digital entertainment experience closer to mobile consumers.

Following Disney's philosophy to provide compelling content anytime and anywhere, the new portal is available to any WAP-enabled mobile phone owner and can be accessed by entering this address into any mobile browser or by sending a text message with "Disney" to 83335. Disney is currently collaborating with mobile operators to make the portal accessible also directly from operator branded portals.

As games are in great demand, Walt Disney Internet Group has included Disney Arcade in the new mobile portal, to offer about 60 playable games, many of which will be free (including Pirates of the Caribbean). Mobile visitors will be able to interact with areas dedicated to Music, Movies and Community. Furthermore, they will find popular Disney franchises, like Hannah Montana (which includes quizzes, real tones and pictures) and Pirates of the Caribbean (a mobile game, real tones and logos). The new portal will also come with a distinct editorial style to offer guests the chance to customize the pages to their own tastes as well as to communicate with friend communities.

"The launch of Disney.co.uk mobile epitomizes our strategy of bringing Disney to families anytime and anywhere. Now guests can access the best of Disney in the palm of their hands while they are on the move," said Cindy Rose, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, WDIG, Europe, Middle East & Africa. "Disney is uniquely positioned to provide this type of service because our customers engage not only with our extensive range of entertainment experiences, but with our brand itself - which is trusted to deliver high quality family entertainment. Whether you want to see a trailer from our latest film National Treasure: Book of Secrets, find out when the next episode of Phineas and Ferb appears on the Disney Channel or play a mobile game, Disney.co.uk online or mobile is the place to do it."

Using an innovative mobile "jump" navigation, visitors can easily move from Movies to Games, from Music to Community or to any other area, with the single press of one button. Moreover, since mobile Internet is clearly experiencing an important growth phase, the new Disney mobile platform will evolve constantly to provide integrated cross platform services together with other on-line sister platforms and with Disney's growing portfolio of virtual worlds, like Club Penguin and Pirates of the Caribbean.
