This year’s MTV European Music Awards took place last night in Madrid, Spain, and, as usual, were a most fancy affair, with all the ladies (and gents, too) doing their best to look stunning on camera – and on the red carpet.

Though most outfits were very glamorous and certainly a pleasure to look at, we’ll only have a look at four of them, illustrating the dominant tendencies of the night: either white and pure-looking, or very short and revealing.

Rihanna once more proved that, when it comes to the red carpet, she’s still the queen even if her fashion sense is, at times, too much to take for many.

Decked in a gorgeous Marchesa feathery, one-shoulder gown with cutout elements and a relatively long (and fluffy) trail, and her hair brought up in an elegant bun, Rihanna was literally oozing sophistication.

The singer happily posed for pictures on the red carpet, smiled and waved for the cameras – inside, she changed into a mock ballerina / prom dress and military boots for a live performance of her latest single, “Only Girl (In the world).”

Miley Cyrus also kept it very sweet and angelic-like, even though for her live performance she seemed to have chosen one of Lady Gaga’s pantless onstage costumes.

The 17-year-old Disney star looked the very picture of style in a white tiered D&G dress with black accents in the form of a cord at the waist and what looked like a tie / neck ribbon.

While these two pop stars chose something more demure for the red carpet, Latino bombshell Shakira did not hesitate to put her best… leg forward.

The singer, who also performed during the awards ceremony, stunned photographers in a mini sparkly number with a cleavage cut so low she almost seemed in danger of bursting out.

Luckily, that was not the case – and Shakira got to showcase her incredibly toned body in the shimmery minidress, matched with sky-high peep-toe black pumps.

Ke$ha also wore a very revealing outfit though she refused to don a dress even for this event, where she got to take home a statuette for Best New Act.

The “TiK ToK” singer wore purple pants, matched with a hanging feathery belt, and a ripped top that more than hinted at what was hiding underneath it.

She also stayed true to her image by refusing to wear her hair otherwise than in an apparently disheveled mess, but she did have a clutch – and lots more makeup than usual.

Below are photos of the ladies who caused a fuss at this year’s MTV European Music Awards. Enjoy.
