As expected – or, for more clarity, as Twi-hards from all over the world hoped – at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, the golden popcorn statuette for Best Kiss went to Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart for their smooch in “New Moon.” As E! News can confirm, this is the second time in as many consecutive years that the two take the award – and, this year, they even got to kiss for real.

Jessica Biel and “The A-Team” co-star Bradley Cooper were the ones to call out Pattinson and Stewart’s names as winners of the category. Either because she did not see it coming or simply because she hates that much being in the spotlight, Kristen had a bit of trouble when getting up from her seat, when she tripped on something that could have easily been Robert’s foot. As they arrived on the stage, she tried to downplay their win by saying it takes a lot of smoke and mirrors to make them look this good onscreen.

However, not wanting to let fans down, Kristen concludes that she might as well kiss Robert, thus far replicating the same speech they held last year, including the kiss attempt. After a few, very awkward failed attempts, when Kristen seems to be less attentive, Pattinson leans in and plants a wet one on her lips, much to the screaming delight of the audiences. Amazingly, Kristen doesn’t faint – but she does make a quick run for the exit, which has made many believe the entire thing had been scripted, included the off-guard kiss.

“Pattinson, sitting with his knees tucked under his chin, looked positively dazzled the entire time, however. And that must have stirred his inner mischief-maker because, when he and Stewart made their second trip in as many years to the podium to accept the popcorn for Best Kiss, he didn’t let his costar get away with her usual ‘it takes a lot of smoke and mirrors to make us look good kissing,’ and planted one on her anyway when her guard was down. Stewart somehow managed not to spontaneously combust,” E! writes.

Fans though, would have preferred if they’d dropped the act and either kiss in earnest or not at all – at least, that’s what many of them are saying on dedicated forums. This way, they would have been spared the awkwardness of the moment – that you too can check out in the video below. Enjoy.
