Another day, another storage device. This time, Transcend is the one making its contribution, in the form of the MSM610 mSATA mini SSD.

The solid-state drive is a very small thing, measuring 26.8 mm x 29.85 mm x 3.85 / 1.05 x 1.17 x 0.15 inches.

Yet it still communicates over the SATA II 3 Gbps interface. Coupled with the toggle-mode MLC NAND flash chips, this leads to read and write speeds of 245 MB/s and 48 MB/s, respectively.

TRIM and NCQ support is included, along with S.M.A.R.T. And ECC.

All in all, the Transcend MSM610 mSATA mini solid-state drive has everything it needs to serve ultrabooks, e-book readers, embedded applications, navigation systems, set-top boxes, mini PCs, hand-held scanners, etc.

Just don't expect huge capacities. The only three options are 8 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, making this something likely to be found in laptops with SSD caching.
