This looks a lot like an attempt to digest remaining chip inventories

With AMD's Volcanic Islands approaching, video cards based on older-generation GPUs will take second stage, which means that the time to get rid of remaining stockpiles is now. MSI seems to know this.

The company has released two new GeForce GTX 660 graphics adapters, called GTX 660 Gaming Series.

One of them has unchanged clocks of 980 MHz GPU base, 1,033 MHz GPU Boost and 6 GHz for the 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

The other is faster, with 1,033 MHz base and 1,098 MHz boost frequencies. The memory is left alone though.

Both newcomers have a new PCB holding the Gk106 chip, plus 8-phase VRMs and 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The TwinFrozr IV cooler keeps heat down. Sadly, prices are unknown at the moment, since MSI proved tight-lipped about that.
